New Year's at Big Red

Call it the Red Dirt Jeep New Year’s Bash or Brian Davis’ Birthday Run, or the New Beginning Run.  Just call it whatever you want.  But the deal is the RDJ crew turned out in a huge way.

With weather reports calling for the low 40’s and a cold front moving in late in the afternoon one might expect a meager turn out.  Not the case for the turn out and the weather actually turn out pretty nice and probably got near 50.

The Yukon area group met up at the local Homeland grocery store parking lot and about 20 rigs headed east toward Macomb, Ok.  This is just a little over an hour drive and in event status that is right in our back yard.

As the Austin Clan rolled into Big Red we were in full force.  We unloaded 6 rigs on site and most were fully loaded with family.  Also many of our almost family folks were along as well.

Big Red Park was reserved for the Red Dirt Jeepers for Saturday and when the total rig count was tallied, it was reported by Joe McGregor (park owner) that there was 124 total rigs came out to start out the New Year with a little mudslinging and hill climbing.

There has been a lot of moisture the past few weeks and has contributed to some of the park being blocked off by high water.  But it was now all open but the bottoms were still very muddy.

As soon as the tires had been aired down and the coolers packed the rigs began to roll out to the different trails.  Congestion was a little bit of an issue until the rigs had dispersed into different areas of the park.

There was plenty of action throughout the day.  Andy Austin and Brian Davis both show a little Jeep wave action which required getting the straps out to keep from doing a complete undercarriage inspection.

Several reports came in of stuck vehicles that required extraction along with several broken parts that also had to be tended to.  Reports came in as the Austin Clan were pulling out that Mike Dobbs had busted some lug bolts off his rig on the waterfall, but had the assistance of the crew from Custom Off Road by his side assisting him in his recovery.

I can think of no better way to start off the New Years than wheelin with this great bunch on family, old friends and new ones.
