Last year I missed the Off Road Expo cuz I was on a cruise ship in the Caribbean suffering from too much. Too much food, too much beauty, too much rest. Sigh!
So this year I made sure to plan better and be at the L. A. County Fairgrounds for the 2007 Expo presented by Toyota. As always, I know I missed all kinds of cool stuff including the rock crawling comp demonstration, but I did shoot some new stuff from some old friends and others who had their wares on display for the wheelin' public. Since you could not be there, here are a few pics that caught my eye.
"40 Years of SCORE Baja 1000" was the theme in a "special, once-in-a-lifetime display" showcasing the history of the Baja race. Two living legends, Sal Fish, race organizer, and Bruce Meyers of Meyers Manx fame were handing out John Hancocks. Check out the extra 'gas tanks' on that orange buggy.
Hanson Off Road had a beefy looking, nicely supported tire+ carrier.
Superlift and the 'Budget Buggy'
Tuffy has been busy outfitting the new JK.
True Flow was showing a very nice air intake for the new Toy FJ, but there are broad applications for their product.
Advance Adapters had this very cool display board and a new shorty SM465 adapter to show.
Interco Tire was there for the second year and it was great to see them in LA! See that Bogger in the first pic, the one next to the smaller tire? Any guess what that tire size is? Would you say that tire next to it on the left is a 37" tire? It is. Welcome to the new 19.5/54-20 Bogger. Mercy! That is a dollar bill placed on that lug for scale. The other new tire is the Vortrac which looks like a great tow rig tire.
Sometimes you see something that really...REALLY stands out among all the JKs, etc. This Campbell Ent take on an FJ was one of them. Ooooff.
RCP Crawlers.com and SOCALRCRC.com put on a super cool RC crawler exhibit. Simply amazing what those little crawlers will do.
Spidertrax off road is making some very cool stuff for building an ala carte axle. Pretty much all any trail Jeep would need and then some. Very nice and really nice folks too.
This nicely done Brute chassis , Project Teal J has been reborn as a pickup truck ready for the trail. Tired of being like all the other sheep in a Jeep? Here ya go.
Skyjacker's brand new Super Duty show truck. Very sweet.
Brad Kilby's Jeep sporting a very cool tire carrier. Very similar to the one I built for my Scout project, I think I will make something like this adapted to project Blue Oval YJ.
PRP seats had several new modles, some for the amazingly popular Rhino.
Genright had all kinds of stuff going on including these new front tube fenders available in various flare widthsand rear fender/corners as well. Also, the rear carrier is all new and ready to order!
The Ultimate Adventure Jeep was at the show. Simply amazing build. Who would have thought of putting a Jeep body on a Dodge diesel p/up chassis? They did and it is sooool cool.
UDS Hardware/Ultimate trail Products had some of the best recovery kits I have seen. Good stuff and family run, too. Think they test on the trail? Just look at that Toy truck!
STAK is no stranger to hard core wheelers, but the new Mini Monster 3 speed and 2 speed case is.
Powertank seems like they do it all. Need to get on the bottle? Call em'.
The new BFG KM2.
Tiny Bits of Silver and two really nice folks (and fellow Christians), Lyle and Leona Schrader.
Now a bunch of odds and ends:
